In Memory of Steven Kidd (1948-2023)

Mourning

Several friends and kin have been going through anniversary mournings this month. One in particular provoked me to write.

One song’s refrain kept coming to me. So I made a sandwich of It’s verses and my thoughts. In the process; I was able to release some of my own repressed anguish of losses.

Let’s cherish every moment we have been given; the time is passing by… I often pray before I lay down, by your side:

If you receive your calling before I awake Could I make it through the night?

Learning to live past disaster: casts us into periods of stark confrontation with the inconstancy of living; that also includes the cold and gloomy shadows of regrets: we can never repair.  And that terrifying glare, alit in the emptiness: we fear, will blur soothing visions, of our most deeply treasured memories of joy.

In times of discomfort, our emotions swing us to and fro. And tempt us to seek some balm to temper the anger; or ease the pain: of our depression. But, like dealing with the common cold:  we just have to bear the processes of time; our mortal nature ordains: for the malady to pass.

Pray for faith to bide the reality; and the opportunity, of reordering your personal solar system:  disrupted, as it is; by some rogue intrusive death star: that has shifted your planets out of orbit.  And while awaiting a renewal of lost equilibrium: try to preserve the best; and release the rest.  Knowing, it’s easier said, than done: embrace the mercy, to your departed loves: who won’t have to go on, here; without you. Live assured they asked God for your enduring grace…and peace. You, can, and will be able to, both: choose life and cherish the Love.

The world is always changing. Nothing stays the same. But love will stand the test of time. The next life that we live in; remains to be seen Will you be by my side I often pray before; I lay down, by your side If you receive your calling, before I awake: Could I make it through the night?
